Estate-grown clones 114, 777, G5v15 and MV6, hand-picked, destemmed whole berries, extended cold soak and wild yeast-fermented; pressed into French barriques (30% new), until Feb ’14; 150 dozen made. Very deep colour; it has amazing depth of black cherry fruit on the bouquet and palate, but no question about its varietal expression; the palate is well-balanced and particularly long, and the wine will continuously reveal more and more over the next 5 years before entering into an indefinite plateau.

Gary Walsh - Wine Front 92/100

Tastes a little bit like a very good Marlborough Pinot Noir, which is of course not to say that Marlborough Pinot is usually not very good.

Dark cherry, sweet peaty smoky earth and undergrowth, cinnamon spiced oak. Medium bodied, silky and spicy, with the dark cherry again, fine grip on the finish and even length. Minerally too, especially on the aftertaste. Tiny bit too sweet and herbal/tamarillo in flavour, but a very nice wine it is.

Patrick Eckel- Wine Reviewer – 94/100

Bass River winery continues to impressive with single vineyard wines from the Gippsland region, this Pinot Noir has seen plenty of time on skin and lees with minimal handling and filtration, the result is a wine that gives generosity of fruit, but a commanding savoury structure and textural mouthfeel.

The wine is medium red hue with a youthful purple tinge, the nose is gives depth of dark cherry but also shows extended lees contact with some savoury earthy influences.

The wine has ample red cherry fruits, but maintains an earthy core with subtle oak induced spices providing additional texture. The tannins have a minerality to them and frame the cherry dominant finish.

Only 150 cases made so it won’t be around for long, and will certainly cellar.
